love them or hate them...

Love them or hate them....?

Ornament cabbages are a bit like marmite, you all have an opinion about them

Architectural! Not a flower! Funky! Smelly!

Personally I absolutely love them, yes they do have an aroma, but nothing changing the water every couple of days won't solve.

"thinking about you"...

Birthday? Anniversary? Just because...?
Flowers are amazing, they say everything without you having to having to say anything. Whether it is happy times or sad times, a beautiful bouquet simply says "thinking about you" ...

not many things can do that πŸ’•πŸ’•

Summer Weddings

As the summer wedding season draws to a close I look back at my favourite bouquet and smile.
This year my sister finally got married (12 years and 3 children later). It was so much fun to help Helen design her wedding flowers. She wanted a country garden feel, to include pale pinks and lilacs.

Helen is a keen gardener and we really wanted to reflect that in the flowers. We choose flowers that would grow in her Cheshire garden, such as hydrangeas, roses, tanacetum and astilbe.

It was such an amazing day, and I loved every minute of it.

Celebrate with balloons

Celebrating a special milestone? What better way to transform your venue than by adding balloons. Our large foil numbers come in silver, gold, blue, and of course pink. They can be table standing or floor standing. We can fill them with helium, or we can create a Piller design with them at the top.
And don't forget about the tables. Whether you want balloon bouquets on every table or just some dotted around the room, they can create your colour scheme and theme with great effect

Lisa and Oliver - wedding flowers

Lisa was just a delight to work with, she wanted a woodland theme for her flowers as she was getting married at Cheshire Woodland Weddings at Blakemere village.

For Lisa's bouquet we incorporated flowers and foliages that you would find in the English countryside such as ferns, tanacetum, eucalyptus, alliums and corn.

We also used thistle, eustoma, thlaspia green bell, gypsophilia and dille.

These beautiful images were by the talented Epps Photography who are located in Nantwich, Cheshire

Floral hoops for weddings

Wedding season has arrived here at Distinctive Designs. Whether it be arranging gorgeous florals, ordering flowers for a wedding or talking to brides discussing what look they would like.

We are always researching new trends and looking towards creating different designs that appeal to todays to brides. Floral hoops are becoming more popular as a relaxed style for brides and bridesmaids to carry.

As the hoops come in various sizes and can be sprayed different colours they are so versatile. For Carolines wedding she carried a shower bouquet with the adult bridesmaids carrying a floral hoop with cream flowers while the small flowergirl carried a floral hoop to match the brides bouquet.

For the gents buttonholes they all wore a cream rose with Foliages to match the brides bouquet, simple yet striking.

For the ladies buttonholes we added ivory spray roses to the cream Avalanche rose with Foliages. We also added a spiral stem and they were fastened on with magnets. The groom's buttonholes had purple freesia added to his buttonhole to make his different to the groomsmen.

So if you fancy something different for your special day, have a look at floral hoops and personalise them to match your wedding.

Christening balloons and flowers

When planning a christening the decorations can really transform the venue. Large 3ft latex balloons add a dramatic wow factor to your venue .

Attached to the neck of each balloon was a satin ribbon bow. We then added blue discs trailing down to the box weight.

We placed the balloon weight on a log slice, on this we also added a jam jar of seasonal spring flowers in yellows and blues including ranunculus, scabious and anemones.

Spring is in the Air

I just love this time of year, so much is changing all around me. From bulbs pushing their way up, to new born lambs in the fields and spring sunshine days.

Although many flowers are available all year round there is still some seasonality, especially with spring flowers .

I love this bouquet as it has bright yellow ranunculus, beautifully scented flowering dille, gorgeous white stocks and yellow Genista that smells devine.

Spring is well and truly on its way. πŸ’›πŸ’›

Balloons for a Christening

Balloons are perfect for a Christening as they can totally transform a room. For Adams special day we did an 11" latex inside a 20" bubble balloon for each table.

We loved the spotty theme and how it was carried through to the children's table.

Each child had a clear 11" balloon with a 9" spotty latex balloon inside, such a fun look .

Wedding flowers - antique style

There are many different wedding themes and styles to choose from these days. The internet and Pinterest have given brides so much choice that choosing your colour scheme can be more difficult.

The antique theme is a popular one, as you can include several shades, colours and flowers to get the look. For Raquel's wedding bouquet we used 3 different roses, Sweet Avalanche, Cappuccino and Amnesia. We combined these with hydrangea, astilbe, stocks and spray roses.

The bridesmaids has smallers versions and a slightly lighter colour palette. Foliages are important too, as they can really add to your theme. We used grey senecio, eucalyptus and thlasbia green bell.

Don't forget to carry through your theme to other areas of your wedding such as your cake. Here we used the same flowers from the brides bouquet and staggered them down the cake.

Just beautiful.
